I was tagged by Mary K. She's so cute I must reply.

10 years ago… I was 15 going on 16. I was studying for my permit test. And I was about to have the birthday party I'd always wanted, yet couldn't really ask for- a suprise birthday party. hehe I always wanted to tell my mom that's what kind of party I wanted when she would ask, but you can't really ask for one of those. It's funny how I like suprises but I'm not good at waiting to give people a suprise. Anyway, that's what I can remember about being 15.

5 years ago…. I was 20. I in the beginning of my Senior year at Georgetown. I was a bit bummed out that so many of my good friends had graduated and/or left the country on me, but I managed without them, somehow. I was looking/praying/wondering about my future "after graduation." I was about to turn 21 and I was looking forward to a new license, not that they ever get better, but each new one is a new try to look better than the last.

1 year ago….I was 24. I was working at the BSU, planning my black and white party and trying not to be sad that a cute boy I'd been talking to a lot was in Maryland. I was also starting my second semester of Seminary, though I knew I shouldn't. Boys and girls, do what God tells you, even if it doesn't make sense!! Anyway, we sure had fun with the disco lights.

Yesterday….I was at work for most of the day at my brand new desk (though I was booted from it for an hour while the put electricity into my cubicle. Then I went to seminary for free food. I talked to my adorable boyfriend, worked on my paper (not much) and procrastinated a lot.

5 snacks I enjoy…reese cups (especially holiday versions shaped like trees or eggs), cereal, milk, peanut butter m&m's, reese pieces

5 songs I know all the words to… Baby got back, Ice Ice Baby (why am I admiting this?!?), Vivaldi's Spring, Jesus Loves Me, Hakuna Mungu kama wewe

5 things I would do with 100 million dollars…Pay off G-town, send lots of people on mission trips, get a house that me and my friends could live in, and take off from working (though I like my job) so I could go to school full time without working.

5 places I would run away to…Kenya, Ethiopia, Zanzibar, Australia, China

5 things I would never wear…thong bathing suit, poncho, leather underwear, a sheer shirt with only a bra on under it, and Ugg boots (MK's list is pretty good... I can't think of anything to add at the moment)

5 fave TV shows…Boy Meets World, UK basketball games and I dont' watch anything else.

5 bad habits…not spending time in the Word every day, not eating well rounded meals, owning too much stuff, sneezing, and spelling everything wrong (not that word, but lots of other words)

5 biggest joys…Jesus, friends, Nick (he counts twice), Jesus, and Jesus (He's my All)

5 fave toys…my new item to premier on Thursday, my digital camera, my chest of international things, my prayer bulletin board, and the green ball that lights up when it hits something.

5 people I tag… Nick(please post something!), Patrick, Robin, Wes, and Lindsey

Database Help?

I know I have a lot of computer minds who read (or used to when I still wrote on my blog) my blog, so as I'm thinking about some things here at WMU, I wanted to get some insight from my readers. I must first say that I love my new job. However, I think there are a lot of things that are done manually that could be done easier electronicly. It drives me crazy having all these pieces of paper everywhere that are filled out by hand, then typed into Navision, the database we use to keep our finacial records (checks, receipts, etc.). During the process of filling out the forms I do by hand to pay our bills, I have to consult paper copies of information that is the database, only to type it back into our database. So, I'd like to be able to export our information (or even recreate a new table) so that I don't have to look it all up on paper. This may get complicated but hang in there.

When we write a check we have to track where the expenses come from in our budget. I'll simplify it a bit, since the process will be similar for different aspects of this. One item is an account number. Each account number has several different department codes that can be used with it. Often people will get the wrong code with the number and then it won't work and I have to look it up again. I'd like to make a form so that when you enter in the account number you can only enter in certain department codes.

I think if I figure out a good way to do that I can do that in other ways with the other items on the form. So, if any of you have knowledge about databases that would help me know how to begin, I'd appreciate it. I don't know if I need to make one table with all of the data on it or if I'm going to need several different tables of the options for each field or what.

Also, I believe you can create several different forms using the same database, right?

One more question... Can I make the forms available to others in my office to fill out without them having to access all of the data I enter? i.e. I don't want anyone else to deal with the data, just filling out the forms and submitting them to me somehow (that may be a question for another day).

Thanks!!

Back to School

Well, classes began on Monday so I've been to each of my classes now. I think I'm going to enjoy them, so that's nice. I just hope I have the energy I'm going to need to do it all. I'm working 35 hours a week and taking 9 hours of Seminary classes. I like to get 8 hours of sleep but it's hard to fit in when I get out of class at 10 PM and have work at 8:30 the next morning. Maybe I should stop showering every day. hehe. Monday I have class from 7:10-10 PM; Tuesday I'm in class from 5:45 - 10 PM with one 10 minute break and one 15 minute break in there; Thursday I'm only in class from 5:45-7. That gives me Wednesdays (aside from Church, once I find one) and Thursdays after class to do homework. Fridays and Saturdays will probably be reading days too. I really feel like this is what I'm supposed to do, so I know God will give me the strength I need to do it. Keep me in your prayers!

Also, one of my roomies got engaged. They've set the date to be June 10, 2006. Congratulations! (I'm not posting names just in case they've not spread the word to everyone yet)

Palm or Calendar?

Once again, I can't make a decision so I'm taking a poll. My calendar is getting crazy to keep up with work and the few personal appointments I have and soon I'll also have a school calendar to add to the mix. It's that time of year when we start planning 2006 so I need to have a 2006 calendar soon. My personal calendar is probably too small to continue using it so I need to move up to at least the "desk" size. But I've also been considering getting a PDA. There are a lot of things you can do w/ a Palm that I find very nice, yet I also like the paper calendar. I know I can print my paper calendar out, but there's something about writing on paper. Yet a palm would be more portable and there are tons of other things you can use them for (transporting documents, keeping notes, budget, etc) in addition to the calendar. Sometimes I think about getting one and getting a keyboard so I can take notes in class. In college I used to type out my notes for the first week of school, and then I'd run out of time, but I always wanted to do that. It'd make it nice to read and easy to search for info that you need, and easy to keep for years to come, unlike all my files under my bed. Ahhh!!! I can't decide!!! So, back to the question, would you advise me to buy the palm or buy a new calendar? I know there's a price difference involved, but try not to use that to make this call. I have tried to save money so I could buy one. So the question is about which one you think will be more functional (and that I'll keep using it). Will I miss paper still after a year? or will I fall in love with all the things I can do with the palm and never regret it?

What's it worth?

I've always been amazed at the amounts of money that missionaries give back to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. This article shares a fun way to raise money and get some "goods" too. What a fun way to do it. It's so funny to think about spending over $1000 on Dr. Pepper. What would you be willing to give that kind of money for?
