Thank you for taking time to read about what is important (or sometimes maybe not so important) to me. I hope that you will be blessed, encouraged and entertained!

VBS

This week my church, Gardenside Baptist, is having Vacation Bible School at Cardinal Valley. It's neat because it's an elementary school in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood. 98% of the kids in summer school there are Hispanic. What a great opportunity to reach out to this community! Pray that there will be kids come and learn about Jesus and trust their lives to Him!

Voices of the Faithful

I was so excited today when I opend our mail and found this book! I remember when I was a journeyman getting an e-mail with an invitation to write a story to share in this book. I kept putting it off and putting it off so I didn't get one in, but I'm very excited about this book! If you love hearing about what God is doing around the world, I think you'd enjoy this book! Though there aren't many of us in the office today, we've all been waiting for this to arrive. Happy Reading!

From a house to a room

This weekend I've been packing up my house to move to L'ville. I have been living in a 2 bedroom townhouse with a full size basement and now I'm moving into one room. This is going to be tough! I've also decided that I am Madam Blueberry (for those who don't watch Veggie tales, she spends too much time at the "Stuff mart" and has a house full of stuff- so much stuff that her house eventually topples over). I want to get rid of some of my stuff, yet I hope that some day I'll have my own house again and I'll need my muffin tin, dishes, microwave and other things.

It didn't seem so bad to live in one room in college, but now that sounds tough. Joy, a lady I work with was talking about how she thinks women have this "nesting" instinct that kicks in at some point and you begin to want to have your own home and things. So I guess that kicked in sometime during this past year. I've been so ready to live with my own things, but now I'll wait again. However, I am looking forward to getting to spend more time with the two girls I'll be living with and I'm very happy about the rent I'll be saving. Just remind me of those things later when I'm feeling cramped.

Well, I better get back to packing. Have a good weekend!

Behind the Veil

I thought this was an interesting topic to address now, so I thought I'd pass it on. By reading it I learned that one of UK's professors is also an imam. I had no idea. Anyway, I think it would be good for more non-Muslim Americans to be more aware of the story behind the veil that many Muslim women wear. Sometimes I think it's a good idea and I wish it wasn't associated with Islam. Then again, I guess I would probably get a lot of questions and maybe I could share my faith in Jesus Christ with those who inquire about my scarf (since a hijab is for Muslim women I'll have to come up with a new name for it). Anyway, check it out.

A message from the Real world

So I worked 3 days last week. It was so funny because they kept saying, "Now, you're going to come back tomorrow, right?" They got me a cup of flowers my first day and I told them, "Yeah I'll want to see my flowers." This weekend I took them with me, so they were like, "See you Monday, right?" It's so funny!

My first day started off with the KBC prayer meeting and then we had our monthly staff meeting. After the meeting we all went out for lunch. Then I did all the paper work/insurance coverage stuff... and then was shown a few things and then it was time to leave. My second morning commute seemed so long already! This week I'm going to try to stay in L'ville more. But my second and third day seemed productive, so that was nice. I have a lot of different responsibilities so I don't think I'll get bored with the job. Anyway, I like my job and I like the ladies in my office, so the real world doesn't seem to be a bad place after all. :) I think I might stay a while. Now if I could just find a place to live...

Tomorrow I enter the "real" world...

A real job that is, not the TV show. For the first time in my life I'll have a "real" full time job. I'll even have insurance after a month! Wow! So, today was my last day of "freedom" and what did I do, you may ask? Well, I slept until 9. Got up and packed until I was tired of looking at bubble wrap (and I like bubble wrap) and then I went to get my hair trimmed and buy some nail polish and clothes. I stopped in to see Lindsey P for a few minutes and then I came back home to pack some more and do some laundry and eat leftovers. Now I'm blogging and trying to decide what to box up next. What an exciting day, eh? I'm looking forward to my new job, even though I had a few moments of sadness as I realized that last Thursday was my last day with a "summer job." Camp is fun, though I don't think I'd want to do it all my life. Well, who knows what the future holds. I may have another "camp job" in my future at some point. And having a "real job" doesn't mean a total loss of freedom. In fact, maybe it will mean being able to afford to do something for a change! haha Well, so long free world! Watch out real world, here I come!
