DVD Duplicator
I'm so excited! I'm going to get to make DVD's for camp instead of just VHS tapes! Woo Hoo! There are so many features and benefits to using a DVD over a VHS but the camp computer didn't have a DVD writer. So, in order to be able to make DVD's we were going to have to buy a writer at least. Well, even better than that we got a duplicator so I can write the first DVD and then I can make 5 copies at a time! Woo Hoo! This will make the job of making 100's of DVDs much easier! Now I have some other things to work out like cases, whether to put the talent show and camp video on the same DVD or separate... and who knows what else! Anyway, I'm excited about this duplicator! I wish I had access to one when I made the Spring Break videos.
Oh, talking about this also might have given me another weekend job for the KBC! I might get a few recording jobs. :) Anyway, I just thought I'd share the exciting news of the camp purchase!

Hero of the Day
Today my hero is Bridget. We had a fat bug (we're not sure if it was a roach or a water bug) around our sink and she picked it up (with TP of course) and threw it in the toilet as I flushed it down. I hope the next bug is a little one since the next one is mine. Maybe I should get some bug spray to prevent any further bug duties. hehe

I'm... sort of back
So I went to Florida for a week to visit Melody and came back on Wednesday. I just got my computer back today but now I'm at camp so I'm not really "back" but I'm not in Florida anymore. Wednesday we had some traffic problems so I ended up going straight to church with Nick instead of going home first. He was sharing with the youth at the church he's interviewing with. I was asked twice what grade I was in!!!! Can you believe that! I haven't been asked that in 8 years! Anyway, it was fun. Yesterday I went "home" for my step sister's graduation party and came back last night and now I'm at camp. Maybe in a few months I'll actually stay in one place. :) Anyway, I just wanted to check in really quick. Gotta go!

Small World
Ooh, I forgot to tell this story... So last night we went to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. I was wearing my Kentucky shirt (with pride, of course) and this guy that worked there asked if I was from Kentucky. We answered, "yes." Then he asked what part. I said, "Well, I'm from Ashland but I live in Lexington," thinking that he might have heard of Lexington. Turns out he's from Ashland too! He's lived here for 12 years though... and he also went to UK. It was fun to run into a fellow Ashland-er here. He seated us and then we started trying to figure out how old he might be and we decided he was probably somewhere between my parents and I but closer to them. So we waited for him to come back by so we could inquire about when he graduated. Well, while we were waiting for our change he passed by again so I stopped him to inquire about his graduation year. He totally avoided the question by saying he graduated from Holy Family and then asked when we graduated. When I said, "97" he exclaimed, "NINETY-seven?!?" giving away that was long after him. I didn't want to insult him by saying, "Well, we figured you were closer to our parents age..." So I rambled about how small Ashland is so we figured we'd know someone who would know him. Anyway, we still don't know if we have any connections, but it was fun to run into someone else from Ashland so far away from home. Oh, and then the funniest part was when our waiter, Bobby, brought back our change he asked us if something was wrong since we were talking to his manager. We assured him nothing was wrong we were just talking to him since he was from our small little town. I'm not sure if Bobby really believed us, but that's ok. So our little Ashland friend is a manager at the Cheesecake Factory. Good to know someone from our town is doing something good. haha

The Lab
I'm here visiting Melody's school (click on title) and we're in the computer lab. I'm using a computer named "Sawshark" while she's using "Speartooth." It's so funny to me because all of the computers have oceanic names. I printed the form I had to print on a printer named "whiptail" because "Moray" wasn't working. Then I filled out the form I needed to fill out and since I spotted a scanner on "breadnose" I decided to go next door again and scan the form to e-mail it back (eliminating the task of finding a fax machine to fax it). So I scan the paper, save it, attach it and before sending it I decided to BCC myself for my records. As I was typing my address I had "awh" typed and then it suggested "Ashlee Wheeler (my old e-mail address here)" The feature of remembering form fill ins isn't so bad, until then! I know Melody has never sent me anything to my phone (no offense, but she wouldn't know how, bless her heart) and I don't know anyone else here! Right about then the lights go out in the room in this scary oceanographic center room where I was alone! I jump up to go get Melody and the light comes back on. Shew! It was just a motion sensor light and I must have been pretty still. Then after I get Melody I tried calling Nick to ask what he thought might be the answer to why the computer knew my address. He didn't answer. Then I backspaced and realized it shows my whole address book as options for whatever letters I type! haha I'm such an idiot! I guess I should do e-mail through a web browser more often so I would know these things! Anyway, case closed!
Just a side note, if you ever want to visit this school, you must have someone who goes here with you. First there was a lady in a booth that let us in because of her school sticker on the car (it's in a national park) and then she had to use a card to get in the gate to the area we're in. I thought it was weird that after all that this computer lab is left open all night. I guess they figured no one would walk that far (it was a long windy drive) and climb the fences to get in here otherwise. Anyway, it looks nice, but a bit eerie at night if you ask me. I'm glad I don't have to come here late at night alone!

How Normal Are You?
I think most of my friends and I are probably pretty weird, so I thought I'd take this quiz. I guess I'm not as weird as I thought I'd be.
You Are 45% Normal (Somewhat Normal) |

Could have owned McDonald's
Sunday morning I had 3 friends at my house that had spent the night with me. Two of them I'd known since I was in 5th grade and the other since 8th grade, so we go way back! Anyway, we'd stayed up REALLY late Saturday night and then with 4 of us and one shower and a limited supply of hot water, making it to church just wasn't going to happen. So we woke up and we called our mom's to tell them Happy Mother's Day. My mom was about to have McDonald's for breakfast so we thought that sounded good so we all piled in the car (in our PJ's) to go through the drive through. I had put on a sweatshirt to cover up my pajama top rather than taking time to get dressed. The drive-thru was pretty busy, but we finally placed our order. I asked for a receipt so we could figure out how much each of us owed for the bill. Then we get to the window where you get your food and they told us they were waiting on biscuits so pull over to the side and they'll bring it out. So I park in front of that window. After a few minutes I turn off the car thinking with all these cars (there were at least 4 other cars waiting before me that were still there), it might be a while. So eventually I notice it's now 10:50, which means they quit serving breakfast 20 minutes ago! So we find the receipt and see that we paid at 10:25. So I decide to go in. I walk in and say, "Excuse me. We've been sitting out in our car for over 25 minutes. Can we please get our food or money back?" After sitting in a car that long wearing a sweatshirt in the sun, I wasn't the most happy person, but I reminded myself that I represent the body of Christ so I need to reflect that in the way I handle this. Boy was it hard to be nice!! Anyway, they scurry to gather our order and offered extra sandwitches asked if they could get us anything else, etc. I requested a coffee for A and that was it. Then I look in the bag and we were missing one biscuit so I told them that and they gave it to us. Then I take it to the car and M checked the bag to find we only had 2/4 hashbrowns. So I go back in and tell them that and this time they gave me 4 more and they were all about, "What else? Can we give you anything else?" Three people attended to me to get my hashbrowns! I think I could have asked for anything. Yesterday, McDonald's could have been mine! haha

Sex Offenders
So Bridget was watching the news and saw something about how probation officers visit previous sex offenders to make sure they're still living where they said. One of them they were visiting lived on my road, so she decided to check and see if there were any in the neighborhood we were moving to. Well, there were only 6 in our zip code, none of which were near our apt, so that's nice. So after we looked at that, I decided I would check and see how many are in my current zip code. There are 26 in my current zip code, 6 of which live on my road!! So I'm not crazy for not taking my trash to the street in the dark! And men, don't think this is only a problem for women, the closest address to my house is a woman convicted of third degree rape.

I don't want to be a pack rat!
Since I know I'm going to be moving in August I'm trying to go through my stuff and eliminate some of it. I'm such a pack rat! I have so much junk!! I'm trying to go through some of it so I won't have as much stuff to move. There are some things that I brought here that I've really never looked at or used (i.e. photo albums from various countries and college). So if I've lived here for a year and a half and I've looked at them maybe twice (some of them only once which was today), do I need to take them to my new apt? But it seems weird to take it all back to my dad's where I know I won't look at it. Then there's other things like my Christmas cards I got my first Christmas in Kenya. Do I really need to keep them? They are special to me since it was my first (and only so far) Christmas without anyone that I had known for more than a few months, but will I really miss them a year from now? It's just so hard to put them in the recycling bin, yet it seems so crazy to keep them. Ahhh! What do I do?!? Anyone have a good "rule" for what to keep and what to throw away?
Replacements
So, I just answered the phone here at the BSU and it was a girl calling b/c she's heard my position is available and she's interested. It's amazing to me that I can decide I will not return here one week and the next week I hear about 3 girls who are interested in the position. While it's kind of sad to hear a reminder that I won't be here, it's nice to know that there are other people interested in the position. I find it a bit encouraging because I know there are other people who want to work with international student ministry. But I'll be honest it also makes me sad to think it's so easy to replace me. But I know that many of the students I've developed close relationships with will not be around next year, so it'll be a good time for a new person to come and meet new students. I just pray for whoever decides on who takes the position to have wisdom with all the options.
No fortune
So how would you feel if you went to eat at a Thai restaurant and you open up your fortune cookie and it was empty? Well, if you've ever wanted to know what it's like, you can ask Guffey, since he experienced this today. If you actually like eating fortune cookies, this might have been a good thing because they gave him another one so he was able to eat 2. Personally I don't really like them so it wouldn't be such a bonus. I'm just glad that we know that our future rests in God because He "knows the plans [He] has for us..." and not in a fortune cookie. This just made me think about all of those people in the world who do not know Who holds their future. An empty fortune cookie could be tragic for them! We must share the Good News with those around us who don't know!!!

Another broken key...
Well, I managed to destroy a third key with my door job tonight. I broke off one of the master keys in the door (fortunately it was locked), I cut a niche in my BSU key which caused it to not work, and tonight I broke the key to Mrs. Debbie's office. So then I had to find a pair of pliers to lock the last one. I guess breaking keys is better than breaking my fingers, but 3 keys!! This was my first day of May... so I seem to break one key every month. At least I got this month in early!
